My WWDC 2008 Session Choices

Image

I’ve made my initial list of sessions I want to attend at Apple’s WWDC this June. I’ve chosen the obvious ones like the keynotes and state of the unions, and I’ve emphasized on some graphics sessions and some iPhone related sessions. If anyone else is going to WWDC, please comment on what sessions you plan [...]

WWDC 2008 Here I Come

I just found out I received a student scholarship from Apple for WWDC 2008. It will be very exciting to head out to San Francisco and learn from the best at Apple and meet some other 3rd party developers.
Anyone else going?

Open Terminal Here Enhanced For Leopard

Image

Joe Pecoraro hinted me on to a cool little Mac app called Open Terminal Here. It’s been enhanced for Leopard, and you can grab it here. This app, like the last one I talked about a few days ago (GrabUp), is a tiny little program that can speed up your workflow. Open Terminal Here stays [...]

GrabUp: Simply Amazing

Image

Ben Hummel just informed me of this super cool new Mac program. I downloaded it and gave it a shot. In two minutes I was back and simply stunned. GrabUp is not showy or confusing. For this Cocoa Code Snippet, I’d like to post a little clarification that caused me some grief a day ago. I was working on a Core Animation enabled view (in a Cocoa Touch project but this post applies to normal Cocoa as well). This view was animating after I set its frame using the following [...]

I’m Now Officially More Popular than Dustin Hoffman.

Image

It’s a real flattery to see Google now rank me as a more “famous” Dustin than The Dustin Hoffman. I really appreciate the Google algo

But in all seriousness, this raises an interesting question. How should Google rank results for people’s names? I’m lucky that a search for “Dustin Bachrach” hits my website first, [...]

Webkit Team Demonstrates the Power of Open-Source

Image

The developers over at Webkit have successfully passed the Acid3 test. If you’ve been following the many blog posts over there, you can see the progression towards perfection. It’s quite shocking how quickly they made the bug fixes. They fixed the last 5 bugs in only 4 days. Webkit just demonstrates how quick and powerful [...]

Online Puzzles for Keeping Your Brain Sharp

Image

For the past month or so, Erin and I have been doing crossword puzzles daily. We try to do at least 2 a day and complete them in the fastest time possible. We try to compete with my parents, but as of right now, it’s a little one sided (i.e. a puzzle that takes us [...]

Code Tip to Prevent Assignment Errors in Conditionals

Image

During my Comp Sci lecture yesterday, my professor mentioned a convention he follows that he learned over time in his development with Java (this tip applies to almost all languages though). You might be familiar with the usual if statement as seen below:

if(tester == null) {
// something
}

If you’ve programmed for any amount [...]
