GrabUp: Simply Amazing
Ben Hummel just informed me of this super cool new Mac program. I downloaded it and gave it a shot. In two minutes I was back and simply stunned. GrabUp is not showy or confusing. It’s screen-shotting at its easiest. Once installed as a pref pane, GrabUp sits in your menu-bar and waits. To take a screen shot just click command-shift-4 like usually. Once you take the picture, GrabUp takes the screenshot, uploads it to its server, and copies a link to your pasteboard. And it’s fast too. This just exemplifies how easy it is to make software. You don’t need amazing graphics or a 100 man team. You just need a brilliant idea, and you need to execute perfectly. GrabUp does just that.
Here’s a sample of what a GrabUp URL looks like:

As with all new software, it needs a few polishing touches. It would be nice to tell GrabUp to not upload the next screen-shot without having to quit it. It would also be nice if it had an option to open the URL in a new Safari window instead of copying it to the pasteboard. Sometimes you might overwrite something on the pasteboard you didn’t mean to.
But all in all, GrabUp is amazing. Plus it’s got a sweet icon and really clever System Requirements:
System Requirements
You must be running OS X. Sorry all you windows and linux weirdos.
This isn’t a Skitch killer or anything like that, but it sure will come in handy. What are your thoughts? Do you use any other apps that do similar things?
