I found this digging around for a Leopard version of ToDos?

Am I the only one thinking todos is just as interesting with Leo as it was before???

ToDos has the ability to show you at once all the apps YOU’VE DECIDED it should show, no matter where they are installed. there is no equivalent in the 10.5 Dock.

So please continue Todos 2.0… It might not be the complement it was to 10.4, but there are still many ways to make this indispensable.

Like, for instance, by allowing a custom sorting of the icons. Apps sorted by genre… what a novel idea

Please, please don´t give up Todos. Oh boy, there´s a lot you can do with Todos! I can think of many preferences and features that could make this terrific software even better!!! Remember: just because Stacks are there it doesn´t mean people will use it; some user just won´t adjust to it.

Glad you balanced the article out in the end, though it was hard to tell what you were trying to say in the first half. One other thing to keep in mind – there are often many similar apps (at least on the surface) to a function that Apple integrates. I think you’ve got it nailed that they evaluate carefully whether it is better to buy a third-party or develop their own, but I think the only reason they buy a third-party is if the technical implementation is really excellent and exactly what they need.

Remember also that anything they bundle to the OS has to perform super-well, and stay out of the way as much as possible for those users who don’t use it. Performance, memory space, etc, are all at a premium. Just a few of the other factors that probably play into Apple’s decisions.

That’s my two cents, anyway.

Well written post!

Firstly, it has to be said, that IP in software is a joke at the moment. Too many companies fighting it out in court over obscure patents, from embedding flash to actual hyper links.

Your product was not revolutionary, but it was (is) a very useful tool. Maybe its a bit like the start menu in Windows, crossed with a bit of the Finder. What you did was bring together a few good ideas into one useful tool. I would liken it to the Start Bar in Virtual PC, the one it places on the dock to allow you to see all the Windows apps.

Anyway, muck like Konfabulator (I have had multiple little apps sitting on the desktop monitoring the computer, providing weather / stock reports etc…), your program has been done before, in different ways, on different OS’s.

For a developer like yourself, this project shouldnt be much more than a hobby, maybe a paid one through donations, but nothing more.

So be flattered, that Apple has done something similar, but more flattered that people used your software, loved it, maybe wouldnt like to use OSX without it.

Maybe its time to think of another useful tool and keep one step ahead of Apple!

Don’t give up man! They use their stacks differently. You can innovate, use core animation to make finding apps even easier. Keep todos alive!

oh and it’s kind of funny that it says, “No Program Left Behind” on the product page. Only kinda though… Don’t leave todos behind, make it better!

Wow, and they really owe it to you, too. What a great post!! I can only imagine how you’re feeling, but I’ll still use Todos when I get Leopard.

Time to write a new revolutionary app, then? See what Apple hasn’t come up with yet.
