DiggUpdate 2, It’s Real This Time

All right, so it’s been forever since I blogged, but even longer since I’ve updated DiggUpdate. Basically, that’s because we’ve been going through some major improvements in it. When I say ‘we,’ I actually do mean that. For 2.0, I got to work with Kevin Rose, founder of digg.com. He contacted me shortly after DiggUpdate 1.0 was released, and we discussed our thoughts for future versions. After lots of designs and markups (including some help from the designer of digg.com and mozilla.com) we settled on this new look, and I started programming. We’ve added a great deal of new features. A few of them being, the friend support, the classic digg window and the slim digg window. You can now easily track all the digging your friends have been doing quickly and easily as well as being instantly informed of the newest Digg stories through the two informative windows.

For those of you who do not know, DiggUpdate is solely for OS X. On the comments on digg as well as email, I’ve received lots of pleas for Windows/Unix/Linux versions, but sorry to say, I just don’t have any experience. And I think Naito put it best on digg: “This App is delish. Porting it to Windows would bring shame to us all.” I think that is perfect. The UI is what makes Macs great and what can make apps like DiggUpdate “delish.”

So, I submitted to MacUpdate and VersionTracker and Apple, but they didn’t send much traffic. I don’t know why; they usually do. But no matter, we always have digg right? Here’s the link if you want to digg or comment: http://digg.com/software/DiggUpdate_v2.0_Released. As of posting, it’s got 1252 diggs with 89 comments. Kevin told me that it will also be on Digg The Blog as well as his blog.

Oh, one more thing; my site can officially handle the ‘digg effect’. At 6:30pm, traffic was about 10,000 uniques and 25,000 pages served and about 5gigs of transfer (all in one day).

And before I sign off, here are some digg comments about DiggUpdate I especially liked:
